KUtube Acceptable Use Policy

1.0 Overview
Kimball Union Academy's intentions for publishing an Acceptable Use Policy are not to impose restrictions that are contrary to Kimball Union's established culture of openness, trust and integrity. Kimball Union is committed to protecting its students, faculty, alumni, employees, partners and integrity from illegal or damaging actions by individuals, either knowingly or unknowingly. The KUtube site, material, and related systems are the property of Kimball Union Academy. These systems and resources are to be used for the purpose of creating and enhancing a healthy learning environment not only in the school community, but around the world. It is the responsibility of every user to know and understand the guidelines for use on this site, and to willingly accept any consequences that may result from misuse of the site, or from damaging the property, reputation, or integrity of the Academy or any of its students, faculty, employees, and partners.

2.0 Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to outline the acceptable use of the KUtube site. These rules are in place to protect all members of the Kimball Union community, as well as the Academy itself.

3.0 Scope
This policy applies to employees, faculty, students, alumni, contractors, consultants, temporaries, and other members of the Kimball Union Community, including all personnel affiliated with third parties (hereinafter referred to as Users. This policy applies to all resources that are owned, leased, or managed by Kimball Union Academy in affiliation with the KUtube site.

4.0 Policy

4.1 General Use and Ownership
1. While KUtube's administration and Kimball Union Academy's network administration desires to provide a reasonable level of privacy, because of the need to protect the Academy's network and the KUtube site, management cannot guarantee the confidentiality of information stored on any network device or web page belonging to the Academy.
2. All users are responsible for exercising good judgment regarding the reasonableness of personal use. Individual departments are responsible for creating guidelines concerning personal use of uploading/sharing systems. In the absence of such policies, Users should be guided by Kimball Union Academy's policies on personal use, and if there is any uncertainty, users should consult a member of the administration of the site, the Kimball Union Academy network administration, or the school administration.
3. Kimball Union Academy recommends that any information that users consider sensitive or vulnerable not be published on this site.
4. For security and network maintenance purposes, authorized individuals within Kimball Union Academy (including, but not limited to: authorized students, network administrators, or school administrators) may monitor equipment, systems and network traffic at any time.
5. Kimball Union Academy reserves the right to audit networks and systems on a periodic basis to ensure compliance with this Policy.


4.2 Security and Proprietary Information
1. Keep passwords secure and do not share accounts. All users are responsible for the security of their passwords and accounts.
Passwords should be changed often to prevent a breach of personal security.
2. All PCs, laptops and workstations with a KUtube window open should be secured with a password-protected screensaver with the automatic activation feature set at 10 minutes or less, or by logging-off when the host will be unattended.
3. Postings by members of the Kimball Union Academy community on the KUtube site and affiliated sites are exclusively the views of the individual and do not in any way shape or form necessarily represent the views of the academy, its employees, faculty, students, partners or other affiliates.
4. Kimball Union Academy and the KUtube site administrators reserve the right to execute approved virus-scanning software with a current virus database.
8. Users must use extreme caution when uploading media to the site from unknown sources which may contain viruses, worms, or other malicious computer code.

4.3. Unacceptable Use
The following activities are, in general, prohibited. Users may be exempted from these restrictions during the course of their legitimate job responsibilities (e.g., systems administration staff may have a need to disable the network access of a host if that host is disrupting production services).
Under no circumstances is a member of Kimball Union Academy authorized to engage in any activity that is illegal under local, state, federal or international law while utilizing Kimball Union Academy owned resources.
The lists below are by no means exhaustive, but attempt to provide a framework for activities which fall into the category of unacceptable use.


System and Network Activities
The following activities are strictly prohibited, with no exceptions:
1. Violations of the rights of any person or company protected by copyright, trade secret, patent or other intellectual property, or similar laws or regulations, including, but not limited to, the uploading or distribution of "pirated" or other media products.
2. Unauthorized copying of copyrighted material including, but not limited to, digitization and distribution of photographs from magazines, books or other copyrighted sources, and copyrighted music.
3. Introduction of malicious programs into the network or server (e.g., viruses, worms, Trojan horses, e-mail bombs, etc.).
4. Revealing your account password to others or allowing use of your account by others. This includes family and other household members when work is being done at home.
5. Using a Kimball Union site or site asset to actively engage in procuring or transmitting material that is in violation of sexual harassment or hostile workplace laws in the user's local jurisdiction.
6. Making fraudulent offers of products, items, or services originating from any Kimball Union Academy site.
7. Effecting security breaches or disruptions of network communication. Security breaches include, but are not limited to, accessing data of which the user is not an intended recipient or logging into a server or account that the User is not expressly authorized to access. For purposes of this section, "disruption" includes, but is not limited to, network sniffing, pinged floods, packet spoofing, denial of service, and forged routing information for malicious purposes.
8. Circumventing user authentication or security of any host, network or account.
9. Using any program/script/command, or sending messages of any kind, with the intent to interfere with, or disable, a user's account, via any means, locally or via the Internet/Intranet/Extranet.
10. Providing any information about, or lists of, Kimball Union Academy students, faculty, employees, etc. to parties outside Kimball Union Academy.


5.0 Enforcement
Any User found to have violated this policy may be subject to disciplinary action. The guidelines for disciplinary action are for students and employees are outlined in the school rules as well as the student and employee handbooks. In addition to any rules set down by the school administration, the KUtube site administration reserves the right to ban on a temporary or permanent basis any user who has failed to comply with this Acceptable Use Policy.
