Edit Your Profile Information:.
After you log in, look for the link at the top right of the page under the main tabs: 'Edit Profile Information'. In here, you can edit your interests, music, anything you'd like other members to know about you.

Upload an Avatar: Click the link to 'Edit Profile Information'
Edit Profile Information > Avatar/Profile Icon> Upload avatar
Click the Browse button, browse to the picture you want to use, and click the Update Information button at the bottom of the page.
Your avatar image will be resized to 90 pixels by 120 pixels so you want to have something a bit wider than it is tall to avoid having it look squashed. If it's fairly square it should look fine.

Create a Group by clicking the My Groups link in the left side navigation and then clicking Create New Group
Groups can be:
Public - Anyone can join.
Protected - Requires owner approval to join.
Private - Owner invite only - Only members can view group details.

'View/Customize Profile' at the top right of the main page allows you to change the look and layout of your profile page, view messages, friends and photos.

Left side navigation:
This has links to all the functions available to you
My Account:
Use the My Account link in the left side navigation to add photos to your gallery, accept friend requests, send messages ,add entries to your blog or create a group

The left side navigation also has individual links to these functions:

My Bulletins: allows you to send bulletins to everyone on your Friends list
My Friends: shows Friends and Friend Requests pending your approval
My Favorites: shows Media you've added to your Favorites list
My Groups: shows the Groups that of which you are a member
My Media: shows the media that you've uploaded
My Messages: shows the messages you've received. You can send a message by cicking this link and then clicking 'Compose new message'
My Picture Gallery: show any pictures you've uploaded to your Gallery

Uploading media:
Click the Upload tab. Put in a title for your media, a description (not required) tags (these can be anything that will help people find it, a classification, whatever you like)
Click the Browse button, browse to the file that you want to upload, and click the Upload File button
Allowed file types include
Video: wmv, avi, mov, flv
Graphics: jpg, gif,png
Audio: mp3

Your video will be better quality if you convert it to .flv before upload but that isn't required. If you'd like help doing that, see Ms. Clemson

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) both have helpful information on music licensing for student and independent filmmakers on their respective websites.
